Some products in Member Splash—like membership dues—are required for all accounts and should appear automatically during checkout. Others—like guest credits or houseguest fees—may be optional and only shown to specific accounts.
This tutorial walks you through setting up product visibility and requirement rules based on criteria like account type or payment status.
Use Case Example: Requiring Membership Dues for Family Accounts
We’ll walk through how to make a Family Membership Dues product required for members with a Family account type.
1. Select the Product to Edit
Go to your Products list and choose the product you want to apply rules to (e.g., Family Membership Dues).
This product should have the Fee Type set to Membership Fee.
2. Edit Product Rules
Click Edit on the product.
Scroll down to the Show/Hide/Require Rules section.
Click Apply Rules checkbox
Under “Apply Rules,” choose Require since this is a mandatory product.
4. Add Account Type Rule
Click Add Rule.
Set the Rule Type to Account Type
Set the Comparison to Is
Set the field to Family
This means the product will be required for accounts that are currently a Family Membership account type.
Set the Next Rule Relationship to And
Note: If not adding another rule, leave Next Rule Relationship blank.
5. Add Payment Status Rule
Click Add Rule.
Set the Rule Type to Payment Status
Set the Comparison to Is
Set the Field to Unpaid
Now this means the product will be required for accounts that are currently a Family account type AND are Unpaid payment status.
6. Save the product
Scroll up to the top of the product settings and select Update.
More Advanced Setups: Using Selected Product Rules
Some clients want certain products to appear or disappear based on the selection of other products. This can be achieved using a rule type called "Selected Product."
The most common use case is applying initiation fees. For example, you can configure the Initiation Fee product to only appear after a member selects one of three specific membership products—and meets other conditions, such as being in an "Offered Membership" status and having an "Unpaid" account status.
This setup helps ensure that optional or conditional products only show up when they’re relevant.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will an account be prompted to pay the membership fee more than once in the same season?
No. As long as the product is correctly set to the Membership Fee product type, the system will automatically update the account’s Payment Status to “Paid” once the fee is purchased. When this happens, any rules tied to unpaid accounts will no longer apply—so the member will not be prompted to pay the fee again.
