Events Calendar vs. Reservations: What's the Difference?

Your club has two different calendars. Learn which one members use to view club events and which one they use to book courts, lanes, and other facilities.

Member Splash has two separate calendars that do different jobs. Members often expect to book a court or lane from the events calendar on your website, but booking only happens in the Reservations area after a member logs in.

The Events Calendar (for viewing club events)

  • Shows club events like socials, meetings, holiday hours, and swim meets

  • Can be public, so anyone visiting your website can see it

  • Managed in Events > Add New

  • Added to your website with the [eo_fullcalendar] shortcode or the Events Calendar widget

  • Members cannot book facilities from this calendar

The Reservations calendar (for booking facilities)

  • Lets members book tennis courts, lap lanes, cabanas, lessons, and other facilities you set up

  • Only visible to members after they log in

  • Set up in Reservations > Facility Groups and Reservations > Facilities

  • Members book in Reservations > Make Reservation

  • Does not need a shortcode or page. It's already built into the member account area.

NOTE: Adding the [eo_fullcalendar] shortcode to a page will not let members book facilities. That shortcode only displays the Events Calendar.

Where they overlap

Programs and Events created in Reservations > Programs & Events block off facility time so members can't book it, like swim lessons or private parties. You can choose to also show these on the Events Calendar, but they are still managed from Reservations.

Helping members find the booking calendar

Since reservations happen after login, make it easy for members to get there:

  • Add a Book a Reservation or Member Login link to your website menu

  • Mention it in your welcome email and season opening announcements

  • If you have an Events page, add a short note like "To reserve a court or lane, log in to your account and go to Reservations."
