Fee Types group your products into categories. Every product needs one, and they control how charges are grouped and ordered on member invoices and in reports.
Understanding Fee Types
Functional Fee Types: some Fee Types, such as Guest Fee, House Guest Fee, and Membership Fee, are required for system functionality. They trigger specific system behaviors and must be used correctly. More here: Start Here: Fee Types - Use and Importance
Custom reporting categories: you can add your own Fee Types to group products into broad categories. These help organize your financial reports.
Member Splash creates these Fee Types automatically if they are missing: Equity Fee, Initiation Fee, Membership Fee, Guest Fee, House Guest Fee, Late Payment Fee, Online Processing Fee, Discount, Balance Due, and Credit.
A product can have only one Fee Type.
Note: Reservation Fee and Sales Tax are internal Fee Types. They are hidden from the Fee Types list and can't be assigned to products.
Add a New Fee Type
Go to Finances > Products > Fee Types.
Enter a clear, descriptive Name.
(Optional) Add a Description. The Fee Type description shows on member invoices under the Fee Type name. Below it are the product name(s) and their description(s), if any. To show nothing, leave the description blank.
Click Add New Fee Type to save.
Note: Fee Types can't be nested. There is no parent Fee Type option.
Edit a Fee Type
Go to Finances > Products > Fee Types.
Hover over the Fee Type and click Edit.
Change the name or the description. To remove a description from invoices, delete the text.
Click Update to save.
Reorder Fee Types on Member Invoices
Go to Finances > Products > Fee Types and drag and drop Fee Types in the list to set the order they appear on invoices.
Many clubs put Initiation and Membership fees at the top, followed by Guest Fees, Late Fees, and other charges.
