Post Payment Actions

Automate account updates after payment with post-payment actions, including account type changes and tag management.

Post payment actions automatically update an account after a product is paid, such as changing the account type or adding or removing an account tag. This saves manual updates and keeps your membership workflow automatic.

Video Overview

What Post Payment Actions Can Do

  • Change the account type (for example, from Offered Membership to Family Membership).

  • Change account tags with Add Tag, Remove Tag, or Replace Tag With (for example, remove a "Bond Owed" tag after payment).

  • You can add multiple rules. Each rule is evaluated on its own, so one product can both change the account type and change a tag.

Membership Fee Products: Automatic Paid Status

Products with the Membership Fee fee type (slug membership-fee) update payment status automatically — no post payment rule needed:

  • Flat rate pricing: the account and all its members are marked Paid once the product is paid.

  • Per member pricing: the individual members paid for are marked Paid.

Example 1: Change Account Type After Payment

Change an account from "Offered Family Membership" to "Family Membership" when the annual dues are paid.

  • Go to Finances > Products and click Edit on the product that triggers the action (for example, Annual Family Member Dues).

  • Scroll to Post Payment Action and check Apply Post Payment Action.

  • Click Add Rule.

  • Starting condition (left side): click Add Condition, choose Account Type, set the comparison to Is Any Of (options: Is Any Of, Is Not Any Of), and pick Offered Family Membership.

  • New value (right side): click Choose New Value, choose Account Type, and pick Family Membership.

  • Scroll to the top and click Update.

Example 2: Change Account Tags After Payment

  • In the same Post Payment Action box, click Add Rule again.

  • Starting condition (left side): click Add Condition, choose Account Tag, set the comparison to Has Tag (options: Has Tag, Does Not Have Tag), and pick the current tag (for example, Bond Owed).

  • New value (right side): click Choose New Value, choose Account Tag, set Action to Remove Tag (options: Add Tag, Remove Tag, Replace Tag With), and pick the Tag.

  • Click Update at the top to save.

Note: Test new rules before going live. See How to Test Membership Products.
