What is a House Guest Pass?
A house guest pass (also called a nanny pass) is a seasonal product that temporarily adds an additional person to a member's account. Common uses include:
Nannies or au pairs who need pool access while caring for children
Grandparents staying with the family during the season
Exchange students or long-term houseguests
How It Works: When a member purchases a house guest pass, they enter the guest's name during checkout. The system automatically adds that person to their account as a "House Guest" member type. At the end of your season (based on your Member Splash Settings), the house guest is automatically removed from the account - no manual cleanup required.
This means families can grant seasonal access to caregivers or relatives without permanently adding them to the membership roster, and your admin team doesn't need to manually remove these temporary members at season's end.
Before You Begin
π¨Important: If you're selling nanny or house guest passes, do not offer "Nanny" or "House Guest" as a member type option. Member Splash will automatically assign that member type when the pass is purchased.
You'll need:
Admin access to your Member Splash WordPress dashboard
Your season end date configured in Member Splash Settings
The specific fee type "house-guest-fee" created (instructions below)
How House Guest Passes Work
When a member purchases a house guest pass:
Member adds the house guest product to their cart and enters the guest's name
Member completes payment
The house guest is automatically added to their account with the "House Guest" member type
At the end of your season (based on your Member Splash Settings), the house guest is automatically removed from the account
Key Feature: You can create multiple house guest products (e.g., "Grandparent Pass" for $100, "Nanny Pass" for $200) and members can purchase multiple passes of the same type.
β
Step 1: Create the House Guest Fee Type
The house guest fee type is what enables the automatic add/remove functionality.
Navigate to Fee Types in your WordPress admin
Click Add New
Configure the fee type:
Name: Enter a descriptive name like "Nanny Pass" or "House Guest Fee" (this is what members will see)
Slug: This must be
house-guest-fee(do not change this - it's critical for the automation to work)Complete any other standard fee type settings
Click Publish or Update
π¨Critical: The slug must be exactly house-guest-fee for the system to add and remove the person automatically. The name can be whatever you want members to see, but never change the slug.
Example Fee Type Configurations
What Members See (Name) | Required Slug |
Nanny Pass | house-guest-fee |
House Guest Fee | house-guest-fee |
Seasonal Guest | house-guest-fee |
Grandparent Pass | house-guest-fee |
Step 2: Create the House Guest Product
Navigate to Products in your WordPress admin
Click Add New
Enter product details:
Title: Enter a clear name like "Seasonal Nanny Pass" or "Grandparent Guest Pass"
Description: Add details about what the pass includes and when it expires
Fee Type: Select your house guest fee type (the one with the
house-guest-feeslug)
Scroll down to Pricing Options
Find and expand House Guest Options (do not select any other pricing options)
Configure pricing:
Price: Enter the amount to charge (e.g., 200 for $200.00)
Allow Multiple: Check this box if members should be able to purchase multiple passes of this type (for example, adding both grandparents to the account)
Scroll to Show/Hide/Require Rules
Configure which account types can purchase this product and any other restrictions
Click Publish
β
Step 3: Test the Product
Before going live, test the house guest product:
Log in as a test member account
Navigate to Account > Payments
Find your house guest product (typically listed below guest passes)
Enter a test name in the First Name and Last Name fields
Complete a test purchase
Verify the house guest appears on the account with the "House Guest" member type
What Members See
When members purchase a house guest pass:
They navigate to their account and click the Payments tab
They locate the house guest product (below guest passes)
They enter the guest's First Name and Last Name in the provided fields
They proceed to checkout and complete payment
The house guest immediately appears on their account
Important Notes
Season End Date
The system uses the season end date from your Member Splash Settings
Once a house guest is added, their removal date cannot be changed - it's locked to the season end date that was active when they were added
If you change your season end date, only new house guest purchases will use the updated date
Member Type Assignment
If you are selling this product, never offer "Nanny" or "House Guest" as selectable member types in forms or registration
Member Splash automatically assigns the appropriate member type when the pass is purchased
This prevents confusion and ensures proper account setup
Multiple Products
You can create multiple house guest products with different names and prices
Example: "Nanny Pass" ($200), "Grandparent Pass" ($100), "Au Pair Pass" ($150)
All must use the same fee type with the
house-guest-feeslug
Multiple Purchases
If "Allow Multiple" is enabled, members can add multiple guests using the same product
Example: Add both grandparents using the "Grandparent Pass" product
There is no system cap on the number of house guests that can be added
Troubleshooting
House guest isn't being added to the account
Verify the fee type slug is exactly
house-guest-fee(no spaces, hyphens in correct positions)Check that the product is using the correct fee type
Ensure the House Guest Options pricing is selected (not another pricing type)
House guest isn't being removed at season end
Confirm your season end date is set correctly in Member Splash Settings
The removal happens automatically on the date that was active when the guest was added
Changing the season end date after purchase won't affect existing house guests
Members can't find the product
Check Show/Hide/Require Rules to ensure their account type has access
Verify the product is published and active
