Installments FAQ

Answers to common questions about installment plans, payments, reminders and errors.

Can members pay installments by ACH?

Installments are currently available when paying by credit or debit card.

Can I add interest or a fee for paying in installments?

No. The total is split evenly with no interest. The online processing fee on the full order is spread across the payments.

Why were guest passes removed from my member's order?

An installment plan covers one product at a time. When a member chooses installments, other items in the order are set aside and need to be purchased separately.

Can a member have two plans for the same product?

No. If the account already has an active plan, the member sees a message that a payment plan is already active.

Can I change a member's schedule or amount after they check out?

No. Plans cannot be edited. You can cancel the plan from Finances > Recurring Billing.

I changed the installment settings on a product. Do existing plans change?

No. Members who already started a plan keep their original schedule. Only new purchases use the new settings.

My member didn't get a reminder email. Why?

Reminders go out 3 days before each charge on weekly, monthly and yearly plans. Plans charged daily do not send reminders. Also confirm your club's time zone is set correctly in your site settings.

What happens if an installment payment fails?

The installment shows as Failed in the plan, and the plan appears under the Past due tab in Recurring Billing.

A member gets an error when saving their card. What do I do?

Make sure the member's account has an email address. Accounts without an email address cannot save a card for installments.

Can a member pay the first installment, then pay off the balance?

Not yet, but that functionality is coming soon.

Can I offer subscriptions?

Not yet. Subscriptions are coming soon. Until then, leave Payment Options empty on any product you want to sell in full only.

Why can't a member choose installments?

If the account has open bills, required products, a balance due, or credit, the member sees a gray note explaining the restriction and Pay in full remains available. For open bills, pay them before starting an installment plan.

Can admins create installment plans through Offline Payment?

No. Installments are available through the member's online Credit or Debit checkout. They are not an option on Finances > Offline Payment.

What happens if the membership system is temporarily unavailable?

Gateway keys saved during a temporary outage are retried automatically every 15 minutes. You do not need to resave them manually.
